OUR CATTLE
Our family has farmed in the Louth area for more than four generations and have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience on how to manage a successful beef enterprise. We have built this business gradually to ensure best practice is achieved at all times and now rear up to 6000 beef cattle every year. At any one time we have a maximum of 3000 animals between the two sites.
We take great pride in carefully selecting young cattle that will thrive in our outdoor system. We specialise in beef finishing and buy in cattle at approximately 18 months – finishing them over a three to six month time period. They come from livestock farms across the country where they have been reared outdoors on a grazing system, and have already shown the ability to grow well with a good potential to meet specification. At around 18 months, we offer them a nutritious, custom made diet that ensures an outstanding finish and weight gain – as required from the marketplace.
We keep accurate records on the weight gains of every animal that arrives here, so have details of different breeds and cow families going back many years, and that helps us to source animals that suit our system. We have established relationships with ‘store’ beef farmers who supply us consistent quality cattle that perform well at our farm.
Having large numbers allows us to group our animals according to size and age, in turn enabling us to ensure the absolute best nutrition and care for each specific group. It also gives us the opportunity to employ specialist, trained staff who will manage these animals to high class standards. We employ eight full time staff and two part time staff, all of whom are fully trained and experienced in animal husbandry.
We sell our beef cattle to a range of local and national buyers, all of whom demand strict health and welfare standards for all our animals, and we have regular inspections to ensure we’re meeting these requirements.
To ensure we are always achieving best practice we spend alot of time and effort attending industry events and getting involved in industry organisations. As a business we encourage all forms of cooperation and welcome the chance to be included in industry research and discussions. We strive to be an industry leader and set the standards for beef production in the UK.
